Yordan Alvarez Could Be X-Factor For Astros
4 years agoHouston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (knees), who won American League Rookie of the Year in 2019 when he had 27 home runs and 78 RBI in 87 games, could be the X-factor for an Astros lineup that lost George Springer, if he's healthy. Alvarez missed the first three weeks after a positive COVID-19 test in 2020 and played in just two games before suffering a torn patellar tendon and needing arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees. The 23-year-old left-handed slugger has posted videos of himself running, but fantasy managers will get a better idea of how healthy he is this spring. In 2019, Alvarez had some swing and miss in his game, but he showed great plate discipline and hit the ball hard consistently. He had a 49 percent hard-hit rate, a .292 expected batting average and a 14 percent walk rate. If healthy in 2021, Alvarez could be a steal at his current 86 average draft position.
