Rangers Sign Mike Foltynewicz
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers signed free-agent starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz to a one-year deal worth $2 million plus incentives over the weekend, according to a source. His incentives could reach $500,000. Foltynewicz threw for interested teams recently, and Texas must have liked what they saw out of the right-hander. He had a career-best 2.85 ERA and 3.77 SIERA while averaging a career-high 96.4 mph on his fastball and a strikeout percentage of 27.4 in 2018 with the Braves over 183 innings. But his production dropped off in 2019 when he was demoted to the minors, and he allowed six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings in his lone appearance in 2020. Folty's velocity dipped to 90.5 mph last year, but he'll have a shot to compete for a rotation spot in Texas, where he'll be a low-cost AL-only arm if he wins one.
