Brewers To Move Keston Hiura To First Base
4 years agoThe Milwaukee Brewers plan to move second baseman Keston Hiura to first base this year after they signed Gold Glove second baseman Kolten Wong to a two-year, $18 million deal earlier this week. The 24-year-old Hiura hit just .212 with a National League-leading 85 strikeouts in 2020, but he hit .303 with a .938 OPS as a rookie in 2019 with the Brew Crew. If Milwaukee doesn't add a third baseman on the open market, Luis Urias and Daniel Robertson could split time at the hot corner. Despite hitting only .212 last season, Hiura managed 13 home runs in 217 at-bats after hitting 19 in his rookie season. Hiura never struck out more than 26.3 percent of the time in the minors, but he fanned at a 30.7 percent in 2019 and 34.6 percent in 2020. He could be a superstar if he can cut down on the whiffs, but he'll still be a borderline top-five fantasy second baseman because of his power and speed.
