Mets Engaged With Trevor Bauer
4 years agoThe New York Mets are engaged with free-agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer and expect to hear something in the next 24 hours or so. The situation remains fluid, but the Mets are hoping that they can get something done and have the money after they were willing to go $100 million plus with both J.T. Realmuto and George Springer. Bauer is easily the top player left on the open market and would give the Mets an excellent one-two punch at the top of their starting rotation with Bauer and Jacob deGrom. New York made a formal offer to last year's National League Cy Young winner last week, but it wasn't for a record-setting average annual value. The 30-year-old is a fringe first-round fantasy selection and should be considered a top-five fantasy arm after he posted a 1.73 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 73 innings over 11 starts for the Reds in 2020.
