Phillies, Cardinals Looking At Free-Agent Starters
4 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals are actively looking at free-agent starting pitchers, according to a source. Jake Odorizzi, James Paxton and Taijuan Walker are the top remaining starters behind Trevor Bauer. Other notable pitchers on the market include Rich Hill, Cole Hamels, Jake Arrieta, Homer Bailey, Anibal Sanchez and Mike Fiers. The Phillies have already signed lefty Matt Moore and right-hander Chase Anderson, but they're both back-of-the-rotation options. They'd like to beef up the rotation behind Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler at the top of the rotation. The Cardinals rotation could use some help behind Jack Flaherty. They also have veteran Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas and Kwang Hyun Kim. Carlos Martinez, Daniel Ponce de Leon, Alex Reyes and John Gant are expected to compete for the fifth spot this spring.
