Nolan Arenado Trade To Cardinals Becomes Official
4 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals have officially acquired third baseman Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies on Monday night in exchange for left-hander Austin Gomber, third basemen Elehuris Montero and Mateo Gil and right-handers Tony Locey and Jake Sommers. Arenado, who had a no-trade clause, gave his written consent for the trade to go through. Around $50 million in cash is going to the Cardinals as well as new deferrals in Arenado's contract, which has six years and $199 million left on it. Arenado will keep his opt-out after the 2021 season and get an additional one after 2022. The 29-year-old has won a Gold Glove in each of his eight seasons and has been an All-Star five times. He had a down 2020 season, but he averaged 37 home runs, 97 runs scored and 110 RBI the previous five seasons, so although the move away from Coors Field is a downgrade, Arenado could easily bounce back as a top-20 overall fantasy asset with St. Louis in 2021.
