Angels Finalize Trade For Alex Cobb
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels acquired starting pitcher Alex Cobb from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in exchange for second baseman Jahmai Jones, the team's second-round pick in 2015, according to sources. Baltimore will be paying more than half of Cobb's $15 million salary in 2021. The 33-year-old right-hander had a 4.30 ERA in 10 starts for the Orioles in 2020, striking out 38 and walking 18 in 52 1/3 innings pitched. He made only three starts in 2019 due to a back injury and allowed 15 earned runs in just 12 1/3 frames before his season was over. The Halos will hope he'll be another success story traded from Baltimore after Dylan Bundy thrived in 2020. Cobb could win a spot in the back of LA's starting rotation in 2021, but he'd be just a cheap late-round flier with an uninspiring 7.0 career K/9 in 917 innings over nine MLB seasons.
