Cardinals Discussing Blockbuster For Nolan Arenado
4 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals are talking to the Colorado Rockies about a possible Nolan Arenado trade, but there's no word on if anything is close yet. The Atlanta Braves have also checked in on Arenado, but they are probably a long shot. Colorado wants a big haul back but don't want to eat much of Arenado's contract, as he could opt out of his contract after the 2021 season anyway. A trade of the five-time All-Star and perennial Gold Glove winner may not happen at all, but some sources think the Rockies are motivated to move him and the Cardinals are motivated to acquire him. The 29-year-old battled through a shoulder injury in 2020, but he averaged 39 home runs, 103 runs, 124 RBI and two steals from 2015-19 and is still a top-20 fantasy commodity, although leaving Coors Field would be a slight downgrade. Arenado has six years and $199 million remaining on his contract and also has a no-trade clause.
