Braves Interested In J.T. Realmuto?
4 years agoThe Atlanta Braves are circling on free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto, according to league sources. Other teams on the west coast are also expressing interest in the All-Star catcher. The Philadelphia Phillies are rumored to be the favorites to re-sign Realmuto, who spent the last two seasons with the team. Philadelphia is believed to have offered Realmuto a five-year deal in the $110 million range, but he could be holding out for a larger deal. Atlanta has Travis d'Arnaud, William Contreras and Alex Jackson currently on their roster at the catching position, so they would clearly like to upgrade at the position. The 29-year-old Realmuto was an All-Star in 2018 and 2019 and hit .266/.349/.491 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 47 games for the Phils in 2020. He remains the best hitting catcher in the big leagues and should come off the board first among catchers yet again in 2021 fantasy drafts.
