Dodgers Could Consider Marcus Semien At Third Base
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly considering free-agent shortstop Marcus Semien on their list of third base options if they cannot re-sign veteran third baseman Justin Turner. The Dodgers were also involved in the bidding for second baseman DJ LeMahieu, but he's closing in on a six-year, $90 million contract to return to the Yankees. Turner hit .302/.382/.503 with 116 home runs in 796 games with LA in the last seven years, but he's seeking a four-year deal and the Dodgers might be hesitant to go that long for a 36-year-old. Semien could play the hot corner or be used in a utility role in 2021, and he could take over at the 6 if Corey Seager leaves in free agency next offseason. The 30-year-old had a career year in 2019 but struggled in 2020 with a .233 average and seven homers in 236 plate appearances. Semien could be a great shortstop target in 2021 if he landed with the Dodgers in an everyday role, especially if he were to gain 3B eligibility.
