DH Decision Slowing Mets Pursuit Of George Springer?
4 years agoA decision on whether the National League will have the designated hitter again in 2021 would allow the New York Mets to maximize their current roster and make further improvements, mainly with the decision whether to add free-agent outfielder George Springer. If the Mets add Springer or Jackie Bradley Jr. to play center field, Brandon Nimmo would move to left field, leaving Dominic Smith without a spot if the NL has no DH this year. Ideally, the Mets could use Smith at first base and Pete Alonso in the DH role. The Mets have engaged with Springer this offseason, but not seriously to this point. New York refuses to shut the door on a Springer addition, but the longer they drag their feet, the more likely it is that the Blue Jays steal him away. Either way, Springer will remain a strong fantasy outfielder with power and speed.
