Giants Sign Curt Casali Monday
4 years agoThe San Francisco Giants signed catcher Curt Casali to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Monday. Casali is a veteran catcher that will become the front-runner to back up Buster Posey next season. Left-hander Andrew Suarez's contractual rights were sold to the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization in a corresponding move. The 32-year-old Casali hit .260/.345/.440 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI in 167 games in three seasons for the Reds after being a 10th-round pick of the Tigers back in 2011. He's posted a .728 OPS in seven big league seasons with the Rays and Reds. Casali's signing is also an indication that catching prospect Joey Bart could begin the 2021 season in the minors to give him more time to develop. Bart was promoted to the majors in August and took over as the starter, but the 24-year-old struggled to a .609 OPS and 41 strikeouts in 103 at-bats in his first big league experience.
