Alex Smith Taking First-Team Repetitions
4 years agoWashington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith (calf) is taking first-team repetitions at practice on Thursday in individual drills, which is a good sign for his availability in a must-win game in Week 17 against the division-rival Eagles on Sunday night. Smith has missed the last two games and was held out of practice on Wednesday, but he seems to be on track to return this weekend. Washington's offense was a top-10 unit in Smith's five starts this year, so they're really hoping they can use him instead of backup Taylor Heinicke in such a crucial game. Smith will win Comeback Player of the Year in 2020 after returning from a gruesome injury that almost cost him his leg in 2018, but he has thrown just four touchdowns compared to six interceptions in his five starts and will be a low-end QB2 if he returns, despite the good matchup against Philly.
