Cubs Not Shopping Willson Contreras
4 years agoChicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said that a report that surfaced that the team was "extensively shopping" catcher Willson Contreras is "fictional." The All-Star catcher has been rumored as a trade candidate and is under contractual control through the 2022 season. But while the Cubs might not be extensively shopping Contreras, it's clear that Hoyer is open to fielding calls on any player on the roster. Teams have called on Contreras, who is one of the best offensive catchers and baseball while also drastically improving his defense in 2020. Chicago also needs a new backup after sending Victor Caratini to the Padres in the deal that involved Yu Darvish. Prospect Miguel Amaya (the team's No. 3 prospect) isn't being considered for that job to begin the 2021 season.
