Keston Hiura 2021 Fantasy Outlook: Big Power/Speed Upside With Some Holes
4 years agoIt was pretty easy to predict the regression that hit Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Keston Hiura hard in 2020. He struck out at a high rate in his rookie season (30.7%) and benefited from an unsustainable BABIP (.388). In 2020, the strikeouts remained high and the BABIP came down, resulting in Hiura hitting just .212. He did still manage to club 13 homers in 246 at-bats -- a near 40-home run pace over a full season -- while attempting five steals, but overall he was quite a disappointment. That bad season only made a minor difference on his ADP, as Hiura is still being drafted in the top-70 picks. There are reasons to pull the trigger that early; second base is again pretty shallow and there are not many guys with this kind of power/speed combination. However, it really does not seem likely that Hiura will be anything but a black hole for your team's batting average, and that is hard to swallow in rotisserie leagues. Hiura is a good guy to draft if you are focused solely on power/speed upside, but otherwise the price just seems too high.
