Padres In Active Pursuit Of Yu Darvish
4 years agoThe San Diego Padres are on the verge of acquiring left-handed starter Blake Snell from the Tampa Bay Rays, but they are also in active pursuit of Chicago Cubs right-hander Yu Darvish, according to sources. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that a deal could be done before Tuesday. The 34-year-old Japanese hurler had a sparkling 2.01 ERA and finished second in the National League Cy Young voting behind winner Trevor Bauer during the shortened 2020 season. The talks revolve around a 4-for-2 deal with Darvish's personal catcher Victor Caratini likely joining him in the package. The Cubs would like some MLB experience in return. If the Padres land the right-hander, they'd have a 2021 rotation that would consist of Snell, Darvish, Dinelson Lamet, Chris Paddack and Zach Davies. San Diego has been in pursuit of another starter or two this year after Mike Clevinger (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery that will keep him out for all of next year. Stay tuned for more details on the situation.
