Taylor Heinicke Jumps Dwayne Haskins Jr. On Depth Chart
4 years agoWashington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said that quarterback Taylor Heinicke will start in Week 17 against the Eagles if Alex Smith (calf) cannot play for the third straight game. It means that Dwayne Haskins Jr., who was benched in favor of Heinicke in the Week 16 loss to the Panthers, has been demoted to third-string QB. Heinicke went 12-for-19 for 137 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 22 yards after taking over for an ineffective Haskins on Sunday. Washington remains optimistic that Smith can return on Sunday night against Philadelphia, but it's no sure thing after he's missed the last two games with a calf strain. Heinicke might have some QB2 appeal in superflex leagues if he makes the start, but fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting too much if he gets the nod. Meanwhile, Haskins' stock in dynasty/keeper leagues continues to tumble.
