Justin Verlander Hopes to Pitch In 2021
4 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (elbow) is hoping to pitch at some point next year after having Tommy John surgery, according to general manager James Click. Click said Verlander "has every intention of trying to come back next year" but admitted that it's an "aggressive timetable." The right-hander had the surgery on Sept. 30, and the estimated timetable for recovery was 12 to 14 months, meaning that Verlander would miss all of 2021. The 37-year-old made just one start in 2020, throwing six innings on July 24 before being put on the injured list with a strained right forearm. Despite what the two-time Cy Young winner is hoping to do in his recovery, fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see him next year. Even if he does make it back to pitch, it wouldn't be until late in the season and he would be pretty risky from a fantasy perspective.
