Isiah Kiner-Falefa To Be Starting Shortstop In 2021
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers plan to give Gold Glove-winning third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa the chance to be the starting shortstop next season and have told former shortstop Elvis Andrus to prepare to play all infield positions. The 32-year-old Andrus is the longest-tenured Ranger after 12 seasons and is the only player left from back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. But Kiner-Falefa would still have to earn the starting spot. Andrus played in just 29 games last year due to back issues and hit just .194 with three home runs and seven RBI. IKF started 15 games at the 6 and 42 games at third base while hitting .280 in his third season. Rougned Odor will have to compete to keep his starting job at second base and will face competition from Nick Solak, who led all MLB rookies with 56 hits in 2020.
