Royals Sign Michael A. Taylor
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals finalized a one-year, $1.75 million deal with outfielder Michael A. Taylor on Monday. The deal includes up to $1 million in performance bonuses. The 29-year-old hit just .196 in 38 games for the Nationals in the shortened 2020 season and became a free agent on Oct. 15 when he refused an outright assignment to the minors. The power-speed threat was a finalist for a Gold Glove in 2017 and also hit a career-best .271 with 19 home runs in 113 games that season. General manager Dayton Moore said that Taylor will be given the chance to play every day in center field, which could mean that Whit Merrifield will play less in center and more in right field. Hunter Dozier could continue to play first base instead of splitting time in the outfield.
