ANALYSIS: The "Swiss Army Knife" type player is becoming increasingly popular in the NFL offense, and other than his TE/QB cohort down south, few players scream Swiss like Bears wide receiver and running back combo Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson's contributions for Chicago have been minimal up to Monday Night Football this week, and with the absence of David Montgomery due to concussion, the Bears were forced to call up Lamar Miller from the practice squad and gave Patterson 12 carries for 30 yards, two targets for two receptions and 19 yards, and to put the cap on the performance, Patterson took a kick-off for a 104-yard touchdown, tying Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington for most all-time.
The drawback is that the Bears have a Week Eleven bye week, and it is likely that Montgomery will return to action the following week against Green Bay. Even so, Miller, Ryan Nall, and Artavis Pierce had virtually non-existent roles behind Patterson in Montgomery's absence, and his well-rounded performance might warrant additional action as Montgomery returns to action. If you need sneaky offensive and positional versatility and a special teams threat as a bonus down the homestretch, Cordarrelle Patterson is a prime candidate.
