Alex Smith The Starter For Washington
4 years agoWashington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith will be the starter for the team going forward after Kyle Allen (ankle) suffered a season-ending dislocated ankle in the Week 9 loss to the division-rival Giants. Smith went 24-for-32 for 325 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in relief of Allen on Sunday. A former first overall pick of San Francisco, the veteran signal-caller is the best choice for the job right now, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Dwayne Haskins Jr., a 2019 first-round pick, will be Smith's backup. Rivera thinks Haskins will benefit from watching Smith prepare and he won't rule out Haskins getting a shot again at some point. Smith might be the front-runner for Comeback Player of the Year, but it doesn't mean he'll be much of a fantasy asset in a starting role. Consider him a low-end QB2 for his first start of 2020, which will come in Week 10 against the Lions.
