Jets Optimistic Sam Darnold Will Play Monday
4 years agoThe New York Jets plan on starting quarterback Sam Darnold (shoulder) on Monday night against the division-rival Patriots, despite the fact that Darnold didn't practice on Thursday after aggravating his shoulder in the Week 8 loss to the Chiefs. "I think it's going to take a lot for him to stay out of this game," coach Adam Gase said. Darnold was held out on Thursday as a precaution, and Gase expects that the signal-caller will practice on Friday and play Monday. The second-year QB missed two games after spraining the AC joint in his shoulder on Oct. 1, but Gase said there isn't any structural damage to Darnold's shoulder. Darnold is ranked 30th out of 32 qualifying QBs in total QBR and tossed four interceptions in a meeting against New England last year. He's an uninspiring low-end QB2 for the winless Jets.
