Cam Newton, Stephon Gilmore Not Practicing Saturday
4 years agoNew England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore won't practice on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19, but he ignored questions about who would start under center on Monday night against the Broncos if Newton isn't available for the second straight week. New England had no new positive COVID-19 tests from Friday, allowing them to reopen their facilities on Saturday. Newton and Gilmore remain on the COVID-19 list, and Belichick continues to say that they are taking the QB situation "day by day." It's unknown if Brian Hoyer remains the top backup after he was replaced by Jarrett Stidham in the Week 4 loss to the Chiefs. As of right now, it seems unlikely that Newton will play on Monday night against Denver, so you should have him benched for this weekend. Whether it's Hoyer or Stidham against Denver, either signal-caller would be a mere desperation QB2 streamer in superflex leagues.
