ANALYSIS: The Indianapolis Colts have made it through four weeks of the 2020 NFL season while dealing with many moving pieces, key injuries, and the first four games played by Philip Rivers for a team other than the Chargers in 16 years (wow, the passage of time is weird). As one of the primary contributors for the Colts receiving staff, Zach Pascal has made it through four weeks of the 2020 campaign making a strong bid to build on his solid stepping-stone season of 2019 where he recorded 607 yards and five touchdowns off of 41 catches out of 72 targets in a passing game then led by Jacoby Brissett. The third-year alumnus of Old Dominion got off to a sluggish start at a time when Rivers was still settling in and the Indy lineup looked considerably different, but he has gradually picked up the pace since then, demanding greater prominence in the offensive scheme.
Even though Pascal saw a tolerable seven targets and converted to five catches over the first two weeks of 2020, that body of work only added up to 37 combined receiving yards in that span, though he did tally his lone touchdown at this point in the year in Week Two against the Vikings. The following week, while facing off against the New York Jets, Pascal again was targeted four times, and while he caught just two of those four passes, he was far more productive in those opportunities, taking them a distance of 34 yards in all.
Continuing that trend, Pascal finally dropped a tolerable total for receiving yards this past week over the Bears, notching 58 yards on only three receptions, and leaving a lot of room to grow in that he was unable to catch five of his targeted passes. So far, Zach Pascal has established himself as a primary receiving option over all Colts involved in the passing game other than emergent TE Mo Alie-Cox and Indianapolis wideout fixture T.Y. Hilton, with talented rookie Michael Pittman Jr. sidelined without a timetable for return and RB Nyheim Hines nipping at his heels, though the two occupy completely different roles within the Rivers passing scheme. His low totals across the board early did plenty to drive away many potential suitors, and while his weekly percentage of offensive snaps has fluctuated in rollercoaster fashion, Zach Pascal is well on track to becoming a concrete lineup option in deeper leagues that reward receptions.
