Is Clyde Edwards-Helaire Worth The Hype?
4 years agoKansas City Chiefs rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was practicing against an LSU defense loaded with future NFL players in his freshman season in 2017, and the star running back ran for 1,916 yards and 24 total touchdowns in his final two seasons before being a first-round pick in 2020. Expectations are high for CEH in his rookie season in a potent offense run by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but Edwards-Helaire looked like a good fit as the team's featured back in training camp. The 21-year-old was expected to have a big role, but it got even bigger when Damien Williams opted out of the season. The Chiefs are very confident and impressed with their rookie back, but they may ease him in since he didn't get any preseason games under his belt. It means he might be a tad volatile early in the season, but Edwards-Helaire is still, at worst, a low-end RB1 for the Thursday night opener against the Texans.
