Welcome to the August 23rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 22nd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- You called down the thunder. Well, now you got it. Bryce Harper w/ 470-foot THUNDAH!
- People don’t listen, Jose Abreu (10). We tried to tell them. Thick skulled people. Ok, let’s make those three deposits to the bank.
- Will he lead the Majors in SB? Don’t know, but maybe Turbo Trea Turner is just trying to get through 2020 healthy (two SB). I can dig it.
- Max Scherzer, are the Marlins your kryptonite?
- Does Jonathan Villar even get dirty when he steals a base (seven)? Keep in mind if you steal in one game, they’re not going to let you steal in another.
- Do you think it sends a wrong message if Sixto Sanchez gets a win his first time out?
- No, he didn’t steal a vehicle. Keston Hiura hit a 411-foot homer (seven).
- This. This is it. This is what we’ve wanted from Gregory Polanco. Monster power. He has speed too. What year will it all collide with healthiness?
- Christian Yelich, seven HR is nice, but the Mendoza line is up here. You are down here.
- You again?! Six men left behind? Brian Goodwin!
- Griffin Canning isn’t there yet. Time to get the surgery?
- “But Rhys Hoskins only provides power….” Now’s got a SB. Count ‘em.
- Matt Chapman is committed to the fly ball (54.5%). It shows (nine HR).
- Dobby has been FREED! With a 5-1 record &1.78 ERA, Randy Dobnak can buy his own clothes. (Zip it on that 4.08 FIP talk.)
- Psst, is the speed still around? Whit Merrifield's quick feet snag another one (five).
- Am I impressed by a 458-foot homer? It’s like you’re not putting all of your 6’4, 272lb into it, Miguel Sano (five).
- The savior has arrived. Triston McKenzie w/10 K in six IP. Spend ALL your money on him! Every penny. **Shut it. Don’t tell them that the Tigers have the worst K rate (35.3%) vs righties on road.
- You are slick like an oil can, aren’t you Matthew Boyd? Trying to suck me back in with 5.1 IP, 2 ER, 6 K.
- He’s down; you’ve kicked him; you’ve poured salt into the wounds. What else can you do to Jordan Luplow (.065 AVG)?
- He’s still a Chase Monster (39.9%, but Anthony Santander (10) can hook em when he gets ahold of ‘em.
- Gio Gonzalez w/ sneaky “follower” win. I needed that. Thanks.
- Stephen Strasburg done for the season. Good luck. Get healthy for 2021.
- It’s not fair to Brandon Bielak (1.1 IP, 7 ER). The Friars have a “higher” support. Air Support!
- Trent Grisham Novel cont. Beau has been gone for quite some time, thought Josephine. It seemed like days but it was mere hours. He’d gone into town for supplies he said. She thought it odd since they had recently journeyed to a distant Piggly Wiggly to stock up. She stepped outside to find that Beau had already returned and had set out a picnic of delicious ribs. Beside it was three large fireworks. After the meal, Beau lit the one by one. In the darkening sky, Josephine read “ I LOVE YOU.” **Swoon**
- Zach Davies, is this the new you? 8 IP, 2 ER, 7 K.
- How can anyone Love it? Jordan Lyles allowed 8 ER in 4 IP.
- Kyle Lewis 3-for-3. Go ahead young man.
- Riddle me this. Tyler Anderson has CG vs ARI. Hmmm.
- Sam Hilliard likes everything in its place. No stats shall touch. Everything equal. A HR must be balanced with a SB. Combo Meal!!
- Endgame
- Ty Buttrey (three).
- Daniel Hudson (six).
- Brandon Kintzler (five).
- This is exactly why you don’t trust Matt Barnes. He can’t contain his inner “Wild Thang.” (0.1 IP, 2 R allowed.)
- Anthony Bass. It doesn’t count against you, but you still let him cross the plate.
- Hector Neris implosion (0.1 IP, 3 ER). Thank goodness we got Brandon Workman (1.1 IP, 1 ER). Ugh!!!
- Uh-oh. Giovanny Gallegos got a save (one) while Andrew Miller was in the eighth.
- Alex Colome. You can’t allow a run to make the score look like a save chance.
- Rowan Wick (0.1 IP, 2 ER) is only helping Craig Kimbrel.
- Kirby Yates is done. It’s unfortunate.
- Yoshihisa Hirano, is that you?
- Kenley Jansen. When he’s bored of saves, he gets a win.
- Have a great Sunday everyone. Take it easy on yourself. Call, Text, email, or write one old friend/family member. It will make a difference
- Don’t forget to work on your FAAB today. If you're into rookies and your FAAB money is burning a hole in your pocket, this is the weekend for you.
