Cal Quantrill Records First Career Save Tuesday
4 years agoSan Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill was brought on to get the final out of Tuesday’s game against Texas, securing his first career save in the process. The Padres' closer’s job has been opened due to the loss of Kirby Yates (elbow), who is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Emilio Pagan was the primary arm that manager Jayce Tingler tried to use to get the 27th out, but Quantrill was eventually tabbed. The move makes it somewhat evident that the Padres are going to have something mirroring a committee in the ninth moving forward, even as Pagan is the most relevant season-long option.
