49ers Hoping Deebo Samuel Will Be Ready
4 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the team is "hoping" that wide receiver Deebo Samuel (foot) will be ready for Week 1. "Not counting on it," Shanahan said. Samuel suffered a Jones fracture in June, and general manager John Lynch acknowledged in late July that Samuel "may miss some games." How many practices the wideout can take part in before the Niners host the Cardinals on Sept. 13 will determine whether Samuel can play in the opener. There was a lot to like about Samuel heading into his sophomore season after he had 802 receiving yards, 159 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2019, but he could wind up missing the first six games of the season. San Fran signed receivers Tavon Austin and J.J. Nelson this week to provide depth, but rookie Brandon Aiyuk and Jalen Hurd and Kendrick Bourne should benefit the most if Samuel isn't ready to play by Week 1.
