Trevor Williams Hopes To Use Curveball More
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Trevor Williams threw six curveballs during the exhibition game against the Indians on Monday. The right-hander used the pitch just six times in 2018 and 21 times last year, but he's hoping to use it more often and more effectively in 2020. Williams was charged with one run over 2 2/3 innings in his final tune-up before he starts the second game of the season on Saturday against the Cardinals. The 28-year-old had some flashes last year but remained mostly inconsistent with a low ceiling for fantasy owners, mainly because of his career 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings over four seasons with Pittsburgh. Williams had a 5.38 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 26 starts in 2019 and won't be a very attractive DFS streamer in his first start of 2020.
