4 years agoSan Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler said that first baseman Brandon Belt (heel) and third baseman Evan Longoria (oblique) both have a shot to be ready by Opening Day on Thursday, July 23, against the Dodgers. Belt is slated to serve as the designated hitter in Saturday night's simulated game. Fantasy owners shouldn't get their hopes up, though. Belt, a left-handed hitter, is more attractive as a corner infield option in deep mixed leagues for his modest power stroke. Longoria is no longer in his prime but can also contribute in the power department if he's healthy, but the Giants park and weak lineup won't do any player any favors.
