Indians Sign First-Rounder Carson Tucker
4 years agoThe Cleveland Indians signed rookie shortstop Carson Tucker, their first-round pick at 23rd overall, for $2 million on Friday, according to a source. Tucker is the younger brother of Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker. The 18-year-old prep prospect hits right-handed and has excellent bat control and bat speed over power, but he could grow into more pop as he adds muscle to his 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. He's an average runner with average arm strength but has the feet and hands to remain at shortstop in the professional ranks. Tucker was committed to the University of Texas before signing with the Tribe. He has the makeup to be a starter in the big leagues, but he'll need at least a couple years for more seasoning.
