Braves To Be Cautious With Starting Pitchers Early In Season
4 years agoAtlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said that the team will be cautious with their starting pitchers early in the shortened 2020 season, with some of them potentially going just two to three innings for the first couple of times through the rotation. Other pitchers would then piggy back off the starters and go two to three innings in relief behind them. It would be a move for the Braves to take advantage of their pitching depth while not overworking any arms early in this unique 60-game season. The Dodgers are another team planning to take this approach, too, and they won't be the last. Mike Soroka, Mike Foltynewicz, Max Fried, Cole Hamels and Felix Hernandez are the top candidates for a traditional five-man rotation, but Sean Newcomb and Kyle Wright could factor into the mix as either starters or long relievers to open the year.
