Twins Sign First-Rounder Aaron Sabato
4 years agoThe Minnesota Twins signed first baseman Aaron Sabato, their first-round pick (27th overall), on Tuesday to a $2.75 million signing bonus, slightly above the $2.57 million slot value for the 27th pick. Sabato hit .343 in his freshman year at North Carolina with a .453 on-base percentage and a .696 slugging percentage. He also had 18 home runs in 64 games to earn Freshman of the Year in the ACC. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder had seven home runs in 19 games this spring before the season was shut down. “We really value his offensive upside and ceiling, the power threat, all those things are really hard to procure in the draft and to pick in the back end of the first round, we feel lucky to have him there,” amateur scouting director Sean Johnson said.
