Panthers Defense In Rebuilding Phase
4 years agoCarolina Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow, 64, knows he has his work cut out for him in 2020 as he tries to rebuild a once-proud defensive unit that allowed 29.4 points per game in 2019 -- second-most in the NFL. Snow is installing an entirely new system virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, too. The team lost nine starters from a season ago, including All-Pro middle linebacker Luke Kuechly to retirement. Carolina expects two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short to step up after missing last year with an injury, and Snow is confident cornerback Donte Jackson will bounce back after being benched. The Panthers spent all of their draft picks on the defensive side, too, and they expect them to contribute right away. They will return to a base 4-3 defense under Snow this season. Tahir Whitehead will replace Kuechly at middle linebacker. Stopping the run will be a primary focus, as they allowed 143.5 rushing yards per game and 31 rushing touchdowns. You can leave the Carolina defense off your fantasy radar.
