Rangers Take High-Ceiling Lefty Among Final Three Selections
5 years agoThe Texas Rangers selected Pine Forest High School pitcher Tekoah Roby with the 86th overall pick in the third round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. They followed that up by taking Central Catholic High School lefty pitcher Dylan MacLean in the fourth round and Carlsbad High School shortstop Thomas Saggese in the fifth round. Roby is around the strike zone but needs improved control and command of his 89-94 mph fastball and 74-78 mph curve if he's to become a back-end rotation piece. MacLean is a projectable southpaw who commands his arsenal. If he adds strength to his frame, he'll have a high ceiling. Saggese is 6-foot, 170 pounds but has a quality hit tool, makes hard contact and has a good approach at the plate. He was previously committed to Pepperdine.
