Cade Cavalli Lands With Nationals In First Round
5 years agoThe Washington Nationals selected Oklahoma pitcher Cade Cavalli with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. There's a lot to like about Cavalli, but he didn't start pitching until his sophomore season in high school and missed most of his senior year with back injuries. He was still taken in the 29th round by the Braves in 2017. Cavalli played first base his freshman year in college before moving to the rotation as a sophomore. The right-hander works with a very clean delivery and generates easy velocity with a muscular frame. There is front-line starter upside here with Cavalli, but there are concerns because of injuries in the past and the fact that he doesn't have a long track record as a pitcher.
