Dalvin Cook Would Be Fine With $13 Million Per Year
5 years agoMinnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, who is scheduled to make $1.33 million in 2020 in the final year of his rookie contract, is headed for a holdout in training camp unless he receives around $13 million per season on a new deal. Since 2017, the Vikings are 12-3 when Cook has at least 100 scrimmage yards in a game, and they are 6-9-1 when he has fewer than 100 yards, according to ESPN Stats and Information. He's been limited to 29 games over the first three years of his career, but Minnesota used designed run plays on 47.4 percent of their offensive snaps last year, the second-highest mark in the league. Cook took 38.1 percent of the team's touches from scrimmage in 2019, the ninth-highest percentage in the NFL. He had 1,654 all-purpose yards and 13 rushing touchdowns as a first-time Pro Bowler. Minnesota could lean on Cook even more in 2020 with wide receiver Stefon Diggs now in Buffalo, making the running back an easy top-five fantasy target at his position. But if a deal doesn't get done, Cook is prepared to sit out the season, which would make Alexander Mattison an RB1.
