Jerome Baker 2020 Outlook: Evolution Into Tackling Machine Could Be Halted
5 years agoMiami Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker was one of the few bright spots of Miami's porous defense in 2019. On a unit that ranked dead last in points allowed at 30.9 per game and third-worst in yards allowed at 397.8, Baker had a chance to collect tackles at a frenetic pace. In his second pro season, Baker registered 126 total tackles, which was 12th in the league among individual defenders. His 76 solo tackles ranked 21st in that category.
The lack of depth on Miami's defense allowed Baker, a third-round pick from 2018, to play on 97% of the team's snaps. The addition of former Patriots Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts could affect his playing time, as the Fins look to turn in a more competitive effort on both sides of the ball. Baker will still be productive and figures to be a top-25 LB for fantasy purposes, but he may not rank in the top-15 as he did in 2019 or put up the same level of production when he saw so many opportunities.
