Deshaun Watson 2020 Outlook: No Longer a Top-Five QB
5 years agoHouston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has been a regular top-50 pick for many fantasy owners over the past two seasons, and he has rewarded that investment with two top-five fantasy quarterback finishes. With the exit of the best hands in football (DeAndre Hopkins), Houston’s quarterback is not likely to repeat quite that level of reliability in 2020. Over the past two seasons, Hopkins has accounted for 34% of Watson’s passing yards, 22% of his completions, and 35% of his passing touchdowns. That is a lot of production headed out the door, and it isn’t likely to be replaced by a combination of Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb. Houston also may look to run the ball more than they have in the past with David Johnson now in town, considering Bill O’Brien is the only person on the planet who thought Johnson and his contract held positive trade value in a deal for one of the best receivers on earth. With Houston’s receiver group a concern and the team looking to establish the run, Watson’s current ADP of 59th overall is too high. As the sixth-best fantasy QB, he should be going in the mid-70s of drafts rather than in the top 60.
