Chris Thompson 2020 Outlook: Pass-Catching Back With Late-Round PPR Appeal
5 years agoUPDATE 8/31: On Monday August 31st, Leonard Fournette was officially released by the Jaguars. You can read the full news and analysis here.
The Jaguars signed Chris Thompson to a one-year deal in the offseason for running back depth behind their workhorse Leonard Fournette, but Fournette is now a free agent after his release. A fifth-round pick of the Redskins in 2013, Thompson has primarily been a third-down, pass-catching back during his seven-year career. Injuries have also been a huge problem for the 29-year-old, as he's played in only one full season. Last year he had 42 receptions on 58 targets for 378 yards in 11 games, and Thompson has 212 catches for 1,772 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. With Fournette now out of the picture, it should be Thompson and Ryquell Armstrong seeing the majority of the backfield work, but rookie James Robinson is also in the picture. Thompson should see more work in a pass-game role with Fournette gone, but his durability concerns make him just a late-round roster filler in PPR leagues.
