Tee Higgins 2020 Outlook: A TD Dependent Rookie With Potential
5 years agoCincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins enters the NFL with a similar frame and pedigree to former Clemson Tiger Mike Williams, but Higgins lacks the speed that helped Williams lead the NFL with 20.4 yards-per-reception last year. While he is a terrific jump-ball receiver, Higgins is a limited athlete who will need more volume than Mike Williams or Martavis Bryant needed to be a fantasy flex early on. Hampering those targets that Higgins needs is the presence of A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, Joe Mixon, John Ross III, and Auden Tate in a crowded Bengals offense. All of these players are talented enough to cut into Higgins’ 2020 targets and touchdowns significantly. While Higgins should have a promising long-term ceiling thanks to his elite contested-catch skills and his familiarity with Joe Burrow (the two spent time together before this year’s National Championship), how involved Higgins is as a rookie may depend on the health of Green and others. Owners in re-draft leagues should consider Higgins as a touchdown-dependent rookie worthy of being taken in the top 140 picks as a Green handcuff, even though his current ADP is currently far lower at 183rd overall. Dynasty owners should be comfortable with Higgins as a top-20 rookie, but they should look elsewhere if they need a consistent rookie contributor.
