Brandin Cooks 2020 Outlook: May Bounce Back After Another Trade
5 years agoBrandin Cooks was traded to the Houston Texans, marking the third time he was dealt to another team after six seasons in the NFL so far. According to ESPN, he is only one of two players to be traded three times since January of 2017. Cooks is coming off a 2019 campaign with the Rams in which he posted career lows in receptions (42), yards (583) and touchdowns (two) and missed six games. Cooks suffered two concussions last year and now has five documented concussions in his NFL career. Still, the Texans needed a proven replacement for DeAndre Hopkins and are hoping Cooks can quickly recapture the form that he displayed from 2015 to 2018, when he had 1,080-plus in every season and caught 78 or more balls in three of those campaigns. He caught seven or more TD passes in three of those four seasons. Cooks will clearly be the new top target for the Texans and Deshaun Watson, and he is a proven quality route runner who can also seriously threaten defenses downfield when he is at the top of his game. He will turn 27 years old in late September, so age is certainly not a concern. If he can avoid health issues, he has the potential to see approximately 120 targets, catch 80-plus passes, go over 1,100 yards and catch seven or more TD passes. Cooks is a rebound candidate at a very appealing value ADP of 118.
