Cam Newton Open To Being A Backup
5 years agoFree-agent quarterback Cam Newton does want to be a starter, but the reality is that there just aren't any starting jobs around the NFL currently. As a result, Newton has not ruled out taking a backup job in the right situation. He could either take a prime backup job right now like Andy Dalton did in Dallas, or wait until another starter gets injured. The former MVP was released by the Panthers in March and hasn't had really any teams interested in him. Restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic prohibiting teams from meeting with players has hurt Newton, as he's coming off two injury-shortened seasons the last two years. The soon-to-be 31-year-old played in just two games due to a foot injury in 2019, and it's fair to wonder how much he has left. Newton won't have any fantasy appeal if he's holding a clipboard in 2020.
