Justin Verlander Scratched From Spring Start Thursday
5 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (groin) was scratched from his Grapefruit League start on Thursday with groin discomfort, according to manager Dusty Baker. Instead, the 2019 American League Cy Young will throw a simulated game on Thursday, so the injury doesn't appear to be very serious. For a pitcher that just turned 37, though, it's the last thing you want to hear as the season approaches. But Verlander has been lights out and hasn't slowed down at all the last two years with Houston, earning two All-Star nods and finishing second in AL Cy Young voting in 2018. The right-hander is a top-15 overall fantasy player and should come off the board in the second round of drafts.
