Jesus Aguilar 2020 Outlook: Miami Is The Setting For A Possible Rebound Year
5 years agoJesus Aguilar fell far from the heights of his 2018 breakout season last year, and was eventually shipped out of Milwaukee to Tampa Bay. Aguilar seemed to arrive as a legitimate power source in 2018, with 35 home runs and 108 RBI, and a respectable batting average of .274. But his slippage did start during the ’18 season, as he hit .245 with 11 homers and 38 RBI after the All-Star break. Last year he hit .236 with 12 homers and 50 RBI. Aguilar’s xSLG dropped 50 points to .443 and his xWOBA dipped from .358 to .334. Aguilar was claimed off waivers in the offseason by Miami and will have an opportunity to revive his outlook, as he can now claim a full-time first base job with a strong spring. When you consider his Exit Velocity on FB/LD only dipped to 93.1 from 93.8 there is still hope for power production from Aguilar. Garrett Cooper is in the mix to get a shot at playing time at first base, but he can move to the outfield if Aguilar fully lays claim to the job with a strong spring. Aguilar has an ADP of 388.67, so it appears he has a ways to go to regain the confidence of mixed leaguers. But he is certainly worth taking a chance on for a rebound with a later selection for depth or in draft-and-hold formats. Aguilar is now on a team that will give him a longer leash to recapture his 2018 form.
