Spencer Howard Tweaks Knee During Workout
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitching prospect Spencer Howard (knee), the team's top pitching prospect, tweaked his right knee in a pre-camp workout last weekend, according to manager Joe Girardi. As a result, he has yet to throw a bullpen session in camp. A precautionary MRI exam showed that Howard doesn't have structural damage, and he continues to take part in throwing drills and also did some running Saturday. However, there's no timetable for him to get back on the mound. The 23-year-old righty will be on an innings limit this season. He dealt with shoulder tendonitis in 2019 and has gone over 100 innings just once in his career. The Phillies think Howard can make an impact at the big league level this year, but he should only be rostered in dynasty leagues for now.
