Tommy Edman To Serve As Super-Utility Player
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals infielder Tommy Edman, who led the team with an .850 OPS in his first season in 2019, arrived to spring training this week prepared to move around the diamond. Edman is expected to get work at as many as six positions this spring. He'll see time at shortstop, center field, left field and will continue to play third base, the position he primarily played last season. The 24-year-old played six different positions in 97 games in his rookie year. The Cardinals plan for Edman to play every day this spring, but not at a set position. He also gives the team and his fantasy owners flexibility as a switch-hitter. Edman finished 2019 hitting .304/.350/.500 with 11 home runs, 36 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 326 at-bats. If the plan stays the same for 2020, Edman should easily eclipse the counting stats with a full season of at-bats.
