Joc Pederson 2020 Outlook: Elite Power as a Platoon Player
5 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson exploded for 36 home runs and 76 RBI in the 2019 season, easily besting his previous career highs in both categories. He scored 83 runs across 450 at-bats while notching a solid, albeit unspectacular 9.7% BB-rate. Interestingly enough, Pederson only saw 49 at-bats against left-handed pitching throughout the entire year. Pederson is part of an aggressive platoon by the Dodgers, which sidelines him almost any time the team is facing a lefty, severely impacting his fantasy value in weekly leagues. Nevertheless, Pederson is potent enough against right-handed pitching to warrant fantasy consideration in most formats heading into the 2020 season. His expected slugging percentage was 0.61% lower than his real slugging percentage, which suggests the possibility of a slight decline, but reaching the 30-homer threshold is still well within reach. With an NFBC ADP of 201, Pederson offers top-tier power at a discounted price in the vaunted Dodgers lineup. As long as fantasy managers can accommodate Pederson's platoon situation, he is a worthy option in the later rounds of a draft.
