A's Non-Tender Blake Treinen, Josh Phegley
5 years agoThe Oakland Athletics non-tendered relief pitcher Blake Treinen and catcher Josh Phegley on Monday, making them both free agents. Treinen was one of the best closers in baseball in 2018, but he fell flat in 2019 and lost the closing gig to Liam Hendriks. Treinen posted an ugly 4.91 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 59 K's and 16 saves in 58 2/3 frames. He'll now be one of the most attractive relievers on the open market, and teams will be hoping that he can bounce back from his 2019 hiccup. Phegley hit .239/.282/.411 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI as Oakland's primary catcher last season. He'll likely compete for a backup role wherever he lands, giving him minimal fantasy value.
